After Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet is the third most famous Grand Cru to bear the name Montrachet and is a major actor in the propagation of Chardonnay around the world. Over time, this once uncultivated hill (Montrachet means 'barren mount' in French) has become a mythical place for lovers of great white wines.
This parcel is in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. The nearly 12 hectares of Bâtard-Montrachet vineyards lie at the foot of the "Montrachet", just the other side of the road between Puligny and Chassagne.
Only 200 cases are made each year.
Jean-Noël Gagnard Description
Bold oaky earthy, hints of tree fruits. Very lovely. Fantastic wine. A great expression of white burgundy.
Mild white spices, floral attributes, Touch of Lime zest, well balanced, smooth on palate, slightly buttery with great mouth feel and a longish lingering finish
97 points - Tim Atkin
From vines on the Chassagne side of the Grand Cru, this yielded only a third of a normal crop because of the April frosts, but whats left is superb. Exotic, glossy and honeyed with pineapple and mango fruit, dense, mouth-filling flavours, stylish oak and a powerful, concentrated finish.
