The story of the reluctant winemaker is something of a cliché in the wine world, but in the case of Frederic Savart it is about as endearing as any. A promising youth soccer player for Stade de Reims, Frederic ultimately refused being transferred to another soccer club so he could remain closer to the woman who would later become his wife. Frederic returned at that time to his family’s small estate in the Ecueil, Champagne and since 2005 has taken over his family’s grower-Champagne operation. Savart’s wines have become some of the most well-regarded by restauranteurs, sommeliers, collectors, and lovers-of-bubbles around the world. This “Couer de Rose” is a special side project intended to elevate and showcase vineyard sites across Champagne that had previously been going under the radar. Releases of Frederic Savart wines are extremely limited in supply each year, so this is not one to wait on!
