Falling more into the old school Gouges style, this is fairly backwards now between its reserved fruit character and grippy tannins. It smells of drying plums, licorice, grilled toast and savory spice. The medium body does show nice acidic verve and the long, minerally finish shows good promise down the road.
90-93 points Burghound
Very ripe yet still reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of roasted plum, black cherry, cassis and earth. The dense, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors are supported by a very firm tannic spine on the robust, serious and very compact finale. This is quite impressive though certainly not typical.
