On the palate, the 2021 Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc exhibits a remarkable balance between richness and freshness. The Chardonnay grapes are expertly vinified to create a wine that is both opulent and vibrant. Flavors of ripe stone fruits, such as succulent peaches and nectarines, dance harmoniously with zesty lemon and a touch of honey. The wine's texture is luxurious and creamy, caressing the palate with a velvety smoothness.
Organic, biodynamic and iconic, Domaine Leflaive is the doyen of Puligny-Montrachet producing “the kind of wine that should be delivered by Grace Kelly” according to the Wall Street Journal. The attention to detail invested in these Chardonnays “set standards for white Burgundy that few other estates can approach”, and in the words of Wine Advocate: “If you do not like Leflaive’s wines, then you do not like white Burgundy.”
Leflaive & Associés is a declassified Domaine Leflaive project made using grapes from the biodynamic vineyards of their relatives, friends and carefully chosen growers in the Côte de Beaune. The wines are made by the Domanie Leflaive winery and aged in the same barrels, but the only difference is that it’s not their estate-grown fruit. The quality is so high that it makes a mockery of Burgundy’s hierarchy and preconceptions about negociant wines.
This Leflaive & Associés bottling is slightly fuller than the Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc from Puligny-Montrachet. Although still lively, citrusy and complex, it has a gorgeous creaminess and more richness on the finish. Offering outstanding value, this is a great introduction to Leflaive.
