Winemaker Joel Peterson has a long history in California having started at Ravenswood in the 1970s. Decades later, he's crafting small production Napa wines that are ageworthy and meaningful. This comes from 32 year old vines planted in gravel, clay and loam soils. The grapes were hand-harvested, crushed and then fermented with ambient yeasts in small, open top, French oak of which 25% was new.
The wine is 100 percent Merlot, fermented with indigenous yeast and aged in French oak. Rich fruit, herb, vanilla, and cedar notes lead seamlessly into the lush velvety texture and full cherry berry fruit flavors, accented with hints of tar and mineral.
