Finding wines like this one is what gets us out of the bed each morning. And if that’s how I feel about it, imagine the delight of our friends at Skin Contact, who located Norberto Paez and Sebastian Bisole’s winery in Mendoza and brought them to the States. The pair are dedicated to low-intervention winemaking, still pretty unfashionable in the heights of Argentina, and the spirit of experimentation runs wild in their various wines. Oralia, which takes its name from the winery, is a skin-contact Semillon with a vibrant core of mango and apricot flavor. The wine contains 15% of a rancio they made – rancio is the hard-explain Catalan tradition of aging fortified wine outdoors in glass jars for months until the wine develops a sherry-like “rancid” character of cooked fruits. The result is unique; texturally unforgettable and loaded with delicious fruit nuances.
