It’s rare that a Burgundy winemaker has success on just their first vintage, but Pierre Girardin has defied all odds. Even with the first, there was a distinctive voice to the wines not often seen so early in a winemaker’s career. Working in the cellar almost from the time he could walk, he is now the 13th generation of his family making wine. Even though Girardin senior sold the domain in 2011, he kept 4.5 hectares of his best plots to pass on to Pierre. Beyond the domain wines, Pierre continues to purchase from growers who share the same views.
Coming from one of the most famous wine growing villages in the world, let alone in the region of Burgundy is the village of Vosne Romanee.
The site of ‘Aux Champs Perdrix’ is one of the great sites of Vosne Romanee, sitting just above the famed sites of La Tache and La Romanee.
The wine is aged in barrels for ten months, half of which are new, and another four months in steel. This is the ideal style of red Burgundy to age for several more years to come.
